A year or so ago, a person who had just finished the HTML course I did (15 lessons of 45 minutes each) asked me, seriously, if he could go home and create his own full-fledged web-shop now. It took me the better part of half an hour to explain.
A few years ago, I was writing instruction manuals for various tleephony products (cordless phones, answering machines...). In one case I had an English language original to translate into Swedish (I live in Sweden). Since I wanted to have pictures in it I tried using the EPS files in the Word document the manufacturer had supplied the English manual in. Unfortunately, my cimputer set-up could not handle EPS files inside Word documents. Handling EPS files as stand-alone files on disk was no problem, so I asked the manufacturer to provide me with this, thinking it would be no problem. Some days later I got a CD (this was before internet/emial was widely spread) with the EPS files I wanted, neatly stuck in a Word document each.
