Stupid Client Quote #185

This quote involves a de facto client. I was the marketing person for a consultancy whose owner perceived himself as a natural marketeer but who was in fact astonishingly clue-free.

This exchange took place after I spotted a number of typos and misspellings in a previously error-free sales letter I?d written that he wanted to ?fix? (by butchering it) before sending along to the client for whom it had been written:
Me: I?m just going to make a couple of tweaks before I send it along.
Him: It doesn?t need any tweaks.
Me: There are just a few small things, I?ll take care of them and send it along.
Him: There is nothing wrong with that letter. Send it as it is.
Me: Actually, there are a number of problems. There are four misspelled words and a glaring grammatical error in the third paragraph.
Him: People don?t care about grammar and spelling. People do not want to see good grammar and spelling. People want to be sold to! Leave that letter the way it is and send it.

I guess that's why my background is journalism and advertising, and his is dentistry.
