I was on the phone with my mother-in-law who was trying to install a lan card she had gotten with her DSL package. She already had the case open but had no idea how to put the card in.
I kept asking her if she could see various "landmarks" like the battery on the motherboard or whathaveyou so I could try to guide her to the PCI slots where should would insert the card. She was utterly confused the whole time and we could never get on the same page with the insides of the machine.
Finally after at least an hour I started noticing that sometimes she would mention "the tube"... I always assumed she was referring incorrectly to a capacitor or something as a "tube".
me: "What do you mean 'tube'?"
her: "You know, the tube."
me: "Like as in a picture tube on a tv?"
her: "Exactly that's what it is..."
me: "This big tube... the other side of it is the computer's screen?"
She had her monitor cracked open.
(note... we're talking about a standard old PC with a CRT and case, and she's never owned anything different)
