was working at a retail store in a city where the streets are laid out in a big grid. I answered the phone:
Me: "...we're at the southeast corner of 52nd and Elm"
caller: "where is that?"
Me: (choking back the desire to repeat what I just said) "near downtown"
caller: "well how do I get there?"
Me: "Well...where are you?"
Caller: "I'm near 96th and Main. Which way do I turn on Main?"
Me: "Are you north or south of Main?"
Caller: "I don't know. I'm not from here."
Me: "Do you know how to get to Main"
Me: "when you get there turn right."
Caller: "That'll take me toward (the next town). Why would I go out that way?"
Me: "Ok, then turn left."
