Was called out to a client (a lawyer that I haven't been in contact with for years) to replace an aging desktop pc with an not quite as aging laptop.
I get there, and is asked to also make sure that his shining, new mf-printer is set up so that he can print out his e-mails and "get them in to his filing system". Looking around, there were shelves floor to ceiling filled with binders all labeld with case numbers, years etc, so I thought I had an idea of what he meant.
That is, until I was finished, and asked the guy to test the setup. This is what he did:
He chose a few e-mails from his inbox, and printed them. Then he brought his printouts across the room, and sat down in front of an - get this - IBM PS2, fired it up, waited patiently as the buzzing CRT came to life, went in to Dos 3(something) and eventually Word Perfect for Dos, and started hacking away, typing up the essentials of his emails, before storing it all on a 3,5" floppy.
I must have looked at him in a special way, because before I could say anything, he said "Yes, I know. But i 'just works'".
Yes, it was last week, and yes, it is 2010 :-)
